Inaugural Pasadena Half Marathon Recap

It was rainy but it was so much fun! Sharpie's review of #RunPasadena is here! Click To Tweet

Sunday morning was the Pasadena Half Marathon and 5K hosted by the Conqur Endurance Group. This is the same team that hosts the Los Angeles Marathon and the Santa Monica Classic. In case you still need to register for LA, use code LINZIELA17. Now, let’s talk about the race.

The weather for the weekend called for heavy rain. Cold heavy rain. This made many of us nervous. Lots of us prepared by getting our rain gear our and got our minds ready to brave the elements. I showed up at the start line and met with the rest of the Conqur ambassadors.

I found my way into the corral and kept thinking dry thoughts and some light rain came down. The race ended up being delayed about 30 minutes due to HEAVY traffic congestion. With rain comes traffic which brings delays. So the delay was certainly understandable…but it didn’t make us feel any drier or warmer haha.

I’m cold and wet and ready to go

The race course was pretty familiar. Similar races in the past have used parts of this course. But this course had something special…the finish line was on the 50 yard line of the Rose Bowl field!!!

This is not an easy course. It is full of climbs, but it is very scenic. The city of Pasadena is really a special and iconic city here in Southern California. So many great landmarks such as the Norton Simon Museum, Old Town Pasadena, Colorado Blvd. It is pretty fun to run down the Tournament of Roses Parade route. The weather in my opinion was ok. It was cold and the rain was steady. It wasn’t terrible. I also kept in mind that if I could run the Boston Marathon in a downpour with a cold headwind then this should be no problem! It was also fun that I ran into SO many friends on the course. With a field size of 6,000 it was like we were all friends.

Singing in the rain

At the end of the day, this was a great first outing for this race. I felt the course had great support. The traffic was certainly a factor and I know that Conqur is already working on that issue for next year. They were working on that as the issue was happening so rest assured this hopefully won’t happen again. Also, finishing on the field is something so fantastic. It is really a treat. And the medal was FABULOUS!!!!

Great job Pasadena! Let’s do it again next year.
