Six Years. SIX! I can’t believe it…no really I can’t believe it. When I started my blog See Sharp Run 6 years ago, I had ZERO idea that it would have grown and developed into the space it is today. The platform. The voice. And over the years, there have been times when I have just wanted to stop and walk away. I’ve had feelings of “Maybe my voice isn’t all that special.” or “No one is reading my mess.” (when I can clearly see that you are lol). But through my growth as a person and a runner a majority of you have been right here for the ride. And for that, I thank you. I haven’t always gotten it right. Frankly, I learned how to do this on the fly…figuring it out as I went along. Sometimes it still feels like that. But through all of it, I have maintained the core of my platform and who I am. I want my blog to always be a place where you can come and be inspired, and get some real-talk. I am not a person concerned with “making people happy”. I have opinions like everyone else, and if you want to know what I think, I will say it. I have also found myself using my platform to discuss mental health a lot more which has helped me tremendously. I will be continuing to do that. That being said, I thought I would take the time and highlight some of my favorite moments throughout the year. Join me on this fun timeline!
2012 was the year that started it all. The memory I selected was my first east coast runDisney race. I had just started my blog (that poor poor blog omg) and this was the place where my stories and voice really felt heard. The runDisney audience has always been super important to me as a huge fan of the races but also they are a core base of my audience. This was the 2012 Wine and Dine weekend. I had traveled alone, and had an amazing time. I met some new people, I ate every 3 hours. It was just incredible. I wouldn’t have changed that for the world. So thank you to everyone who read, listened, and promoted my posts and words to the masses. It is because of you Sharp Endurance is here now.
I said once that I would never run a marathon…to date I’ve run 28. You never forget your first, and that was the 20th anniversary Walt Disney World marathon. You remember, that one time I met a bunch of random strangers and weirdos on Twitter and we decided it would be a good idea to meet and run our first marathon together. Well, that was the best decision we ever made because these people are still some of my closest friends to this DAY! I was sad I couldn’t join our reunion this year due to my job getting in the way, but I will never forget my first 26.2 experience…which happened to be a Goofy. I got problems, man.
After the tragic events of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, my spirit KNEW I had to be in Boston in 2014 to reclaim our finish line. I felt it so strong in my bones. Now, I knew I wouldn’t qualify (still haven’t probably won’t and that is okay), so I found my way into the race through charity. I ran this race with two folks that I ran my first marathon with (see told you we were close) and had the time of my life. The energy of Boston is something completely unmatched. You can’t find that anywhere else on Earth. My heart was so full at the end of the race. I would go on to run two more Boston Marathons for a total of three. Writing this post helps me really see how blessed and fortunate I am…God is good.
When ASICS contacted me in 2015 and told me they wanted me to be apart of a project for the TCS NYC Marathon, I thought they emailed the wrong person! I re-read that email for two days straight. Being flown to New York, housed in a FANCY hotel, and getting to run this race while being apart of a media project was SUPER fun! I had the time of my LIFE! And NYC is STILL my marathon PR. I still can’t thank ASICS enough because this was a life changing week!
When Garmin contacted me to join their ambassador team, I again thought they emailed the wrong person lol. In our third year of partnership together, we have shot print, social, and video ads. And if you launch your Garmin Connect App, you may see a familiar face. A testament to the power of hard work and engagement. I work hard on these campaigns and they honestly wear me out, but the finished product is seriously incredible.
So, a lot of stuff happened in 2017. I started my Skechers Performance sponsorship for one…but the big daddy is I RAN LONDON! It’s truly hard to believe that was a year ago already. London…I can’t say enough good stuff about it and how much fun I had. But you can always just go back and read the recap HAHA!
I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane. Today is a big day. Thank you for being apart of it. You are the reason I keep doing this and doing what I do…whatever that is. But seriously each click and engagement is appreciated more than you will ever know. THANK YOU for six years. Here’s to many more.
